Accessibility statement
We want everyone to be able to use the Crown Intelligence website, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification or other assistive technology.
Last tested October 11, 2026.
The standard we meet
Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) requires public websites to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 at Level AA, under section 14 of the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (O. Reg. 191/11).
The public pages of this website conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA. We design and test to the newer WCAG 2.2 Level AA, which includes every WCAG 2.0 Level AA requirement and adds criteria such as minimum target size and focus that is not hidden.
What this means on the site
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, starts with a "Skip to content" link and shows where the keyboard focus is.
- Pages have a single main heading, headings in order, and labelled navigation regions.
- Text and controls meet the WCAG contrast ratios; links in running text are underlined.
- Pages reflow to a narrow screen without sideways scrolling; wide tables scroll inside their own focusable region.
- Text can be enlarged to 200% with the browser's zoom.
- The animated globe can be paused with its "Pause animation" button, and it does not move at all if your device is set to reduce motion.
- Decorative images are hidden from screen readers; informative images have text alternatives.
How we test
On October 11, 2026 we tested one page of every page design (home, data collections, sanctions-list guides, documentation, articles, legal pages, contact, the "Coming soon" and "Page not found" pages):
- automatically with axe-core against all WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 Level A and AA rules, at desktop width and at a 375-pixel phone width;
- by hand for keyboard navigation, visible focus, the mobile menu, reflow at 320 pixels and reduced motion.
Automated tools cannot find every barrier, so we also rely on feedback from the people who use the site.
Known limitations
- Data files. The bulk downloads (CSV, JSON and similar) are machine-readable data for software, not documents. If you need any of that information in another format, ask us and we will provide it.
- Sections not yet open. Some tools, such as record search and screening, show a "Coming soon" page today. Each will be tested to the same standard before it opens.
Feedback and accessible formats
If something on the site is hard to use, or you need information in an accessible format or with a communication support, contact us:
- Email: [email protected] (subject "Accessibility")
- Or use the contact page.
Tell us the page address and what you were trying to do. We will provide accessible formats and communication supports on request, in a timely manner and at no more than the regular cost, and we will tell you how we have dealt with your feedback.
