Data enrichment
The reference data we hold beyond the risk lists, how it relates to screening records, and what is not yet linked.
Sanctions and PEP lists say who is listed. They rarely say who owns a listed company, who sits on its board, or which ships it operates. Enrichment means bringing that context in from other official sources. This page explains what we hold, how it relates to the screening records, and what is not linked yet.
What reference data can add
- Corporate context: registration details and status from company registers.
- Ownership: persons with significant control filed with a register.
- Identifiers: registration numbers, IMO numbers and securities identifiers that tie records together.
- Investigative context: which other records concern the same party.
Two kinds of data
Screening records and reference records
Our screening records are the entries on sanctions, PEP, debarment and enforcement lists: the records you search, match and download in the collections. Our reference records come from registers of companies, owners, people, securities and vessels. They are held separately and counted separately; one is never added to the other.

Figures are live estimates from /api/overview.
Not linked yet. Reference records are not yet joined to screening records. A match result does not tell you who owns a listed company, and a company search does not tell you that its owner is listed. The reference data is available as corroborating data in its own collections.
How screening records are linked today
Screening records of the same party on different registers are linked by a merged entity ID. The entities API returns the merged view, and every record keeps its own register, so nothing is attributed to a source that did not publish it.
Provenance
Every record names its register and publisher. Value-by-value history is in statements.csv in the bulk files.
Risk through relationships
Some providers tag the relatives, associates and subsidiaries of listed parties. Our topics come from the list a record is on (sanction, role.pep, debarment, reg.action), and we do not yet tag parties for their links to others.
Beneficial ownership
Our ownership data comes from the UK register of persons with significant control. Its limits matter:
- It covers companies on that register only, not other jurisdictions.
- It records the nature of control as filed (bands of shares or voting rights, or other control), not exact percentages.
- It shows what was filed; it cannot reveal nominee arrangements or unfiled owners.
It cannot by itself establish whether a company is owned 50% or more by listed persons, as some sanctions regimes require you to assess.
Reference collections

- OwnershipPersons with significant control.
- SecuritiesIssuers and instruments.
