Our data exists because public bodies around the world publish their registers. We credit each of them, and the open projects we build on.
Source publishers
Every record we publish comes from an official or public register: foreign ministries, finance ministries, regulators, courts, parliaments and international bodies. We currently draw on 1,278 loaded sources. Each one is credited by name on All data sources and on every record that comes from it, and the attribution required when you reuse our data is in the attribution notice.
Open data publishers
Several publishers make their registers available as open data, in bulk and in machine-readable form. That is what lets us load them in full and keep them current. Among them:
| Publisher | What we use |
|---|---|
| Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) | Legal entity identifiers and the ISIN-to-LEI mapping, held as registry reference data. See Securities and Know your business. |
| UK Companies House | The company register and the register of people with significant control (see Beneficial ownership), and the register of disqualified directors. |
| Government of Canada open data | Federal registers published on the open government portal and by departments, including GEDS federal officials, proactive disclosure of senior officials’ travel, CFIA recalls and CNSC administrative monetary penalties. |
Municipal open data portals, among them those of Toronto and Vancouver, supply their lists of elected officials and, for Toronto, the registry of declared interest and campaign contributions. The full list, with each publisher, is on All data sources.
Open data model
Our entity files follow FollowTheMoney, an open data model for people, companies and the links between them, so that our data can be read by tools built for it. Our bulk files also follow the Senzing entity format for entity-resolution systems.
