Canada's 14 company registers — a KYB guide
Canada has 14 company registers: one federal register and one for each province and territory. This guide covers all 14. For each one it sets out what the register holds, whether a search is free, what it says about ownership, the fees, bulk access and KYB notes, with every official source cited. Checked on 2026-10-10.
Why company registers matter for KYB
A company register is the first document check in know-your-business (KYB) work. It confirms that a company exists and shows its legal name, status, registered office and, in most places, its directors or officers. A register does not show that a company trades under the name a customer gives, that its accounts are sound, or who controls it in practice. Ownership is the hardest part: in Canada it is public in only a few registers, and elsewhere it is kept privately by the company itself.
Treat the register as one source among several. Screen the company and its directors against sanctions, PEP, debarment and regulatory lists, and record what you checked and when. For the obligations that apply to your business, see the FINTRAC and PCMLTFA guide.
Federal and provincial incorporation
A Canadian business corporation is incorporated either federally, under the Canada Business Corporations Act (CBCA), or under the law of one province or territory. The federal register covers federal corporations, but not financial institutions, insurance companies, loan and trust companies, or companies incorporated provincially. Each province and territory keeps its own register for the companies formed there.
A company formed in one jurisdiction that carries on business in another must register there as an extra-provincial or extra-territorial company. So a company can appear in several registers. Check the home register first, then any register where the company is registered to do business.
Names are not unique across registers, so match on a number where you can: the corporation number and Business Number (BN) for federal companies, the Ontario Corporation Number (OCN) or Business Identification Number (BIN) in Ontario, the enterprise number (NEQ) in Quebec, the Registry ID in Nova Scotia, and the file number in the NWT.
At a glance
Each row summarises the official pages read on 2026-10-10. Fees are as published and may have changed. Where a schedule is older than 2025, the register section says so.
- Free search without an account: federal, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island (official business name only), Yukon (basic), NWT (basic) and New Brunswick (by Business Number only).
- Account or login needed: British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
- Agent or email only: Alberta and Nunavut. We found no free online corporate search for either.
- Not confirmed: Newfoundland and Labrador. The search returned no records on our test.
- Ownership data in a free public search: federal (ISC fields) and Quebec (ultimate beneficiaries, per the official description). Ontario is not verified. In the other registers, the ISC register is kept by the company and is not public, or no register was found.
- Bulk or open data: federal (CSV, Open Government Licence) and Quebec (ZIP, non-commercial licence). British Columbia has OrgBook BC, a limited open API. No other register offers bulk access that we found.
- Crown Intelligence: we hold none of the 14 company registers. Our registries catalogue lists company registers from other countries. The Canadian entries are sanctions, PEP, debarment and regulatory lists. Quebec is partial: we hold the RENA list and two environmental registers that can flag a company. Crown Intelligence data is hosted in Canada.

How published guides compare
Commercial providers publish registry guides for Canada, and some describe the registers in broad terms. Kyckr's 2025 Canada guide describes instant access to all 14 registers. The official pages show a more varied picture. Alberta and Nunavut have no online corporate search, three registers need a login or account, and only two publish ownership data in a free search. Where we could not confirm a point, this guide says so rather than filling the gap.
Two other points differ. The Kyckr guide quotes a $7 search fee for British Columbia. The legacy BC OnLine list we read shows CAD 8.50 for a search, and the current price is not confirmed. The same guide describes British Columbia ownership disclosure from autumn 2025. On the BC pages we read, we found no ISC data, so the table records it as not found, not as public.
This guide also dates every fee schedule. Several are old: Manitoba (2018), Nova Scotia (2019), Newfoundland and Labrador (2017) and PEI (a 2012 consolidation). Confirm those before quoting a client.
Federal register
Corporations Canada (federal)
What it holds. Corporations under the Canada Business Corporations Act (CBCA), plus federal not-for-profit corporations, co-operatives, boards of trade and special Act corporations. It excludes financial institutions, insurance companies, loan and trust companies, and provincially incorporated companies. Public fields include legal name, corporation number, BN, status, governing statute, registered office, and directors' names and addresses. Trade names are not on the register. Filed records stay public after dissolution.
Ownership. Since 22 January 2024, CBCA corporations must file individuals with significant control (ISC). The public fields are the person's name, the date they became or ceased to be an ISC, a description of the control, and a residential address or address for service. ISC records cannot be searched by the person's name. The database will take more than a year to fill, so an empty ISC field means unknown, not no owners.
Search and fees.
- Free online search by name, corporation number or BN. No account needed.
- Certificate of Compliance or Certificate of Existence: CAD 10 online (1 day), or CAD 20 by email or mail (10 days).
- Certified copy of a corporate document: CAD 40 (10 days). Uncertified copy: CAD 5.
- Express surcharge: CAD 100 plus the regular fee, for listed services. Source schedule read 2026-10-10.
Bulk and API. The Open Government Portal dataset 'Federal Corporations' has CSV files for active CBCA corporations, other active corporations (not-for-profit, co-operatives, boards of trade and special Act), and inactive corporations, in English and French. It is licensed under the Open Government Licence - Canada. The dataset description does not mention ISC fields.
KYB notes. Authoritative for confirming that a federal corporation exists, its status, registered office and directors. It does not cover provincial companies, and a name search does not confirm a trade name. Order a Certificate of Compliance or Existence where you need proof of standing. Canada's Business Registries search is a free federal search that, according to the source, also covers several provincial registers. Check its current coverage list before relying on it, because it does not replace the provincial register.
To verify.
- Whether ISC data appears in the open-data CSVs or the API: not verified.
Crown Intelligence coverage. Not held. Crown Intelligence does not load a Canadian corporate register.

Provincial registers
Ontario: Ontario Business Registry (OBR)
What it holds. Corporations, limited partnerships, business names, extra-provincial companies and not-for-profit corporations. The public record includes the registered office, address information and filings under the business statutes. Filing contact details and the official email address are not public. Identifiers are the Ontario Corporation Number (OCN) and the Business Identification Number (BIN). Records were migrated when the OBR launched on 19 October 2021.
Ownership. The pages read describe the registered office, address information and filings. They do not describe ownership (ISC) data or officer and director names on the free search. We have not confirmed either way, so confirm with the ministry before relying on it in KYB.
Search and fees.
- Basic search by name, OCN or BIN is free on the OBR search page.
- Profile report: CAD 8. Document copies: CAD 3 each. Certificate of status: CAD 26.
- These prices apply to direct ministry orders. Licensed service providers add their own fees.
- A company key is free and is needed to file or to appoint an intermediary.
Bulk and API. No bulk download or public API found. Eight licensed service providers resell registry searches, and they may offer bulk access on their own terms. We did not review those terms.
KYB notes. The ministry says Ontario companies must update the OBR within 15 days of a change, and that the annual return is due within six months of the fiscal year-end. The free search shows limited officer and owner detail. The ministry does not endorse service providers and says businesses should do their own due diligence.
To verify.
- Officer and owner data on the free search: not verified.
- French service availability: not verified.
- The ministry fee page returned 404, so fees come from the main OBR page.
Crown Intelligence coverage. Not held. The Ontario entries in our catalogue are regulator lists, such as OSC unpaid sanctions and investor warnings. They are useful checks, but they do not replace the registry.
Quebec: Registre des entreprises (REQ)
What it holds. Enterprises constituted or registered in Quebec, including legal persons, sole proprietors, partnerships, associations and trusts carrying on business. The public record shows the enterprise number (NEQ), status, names used, establishment addresses, officers and directors (administrateurs and fondés de pouvoir), and ultimate beneficiaries (bénéficiaires ultimes). Historical records from the Central Enterprise File, archived from 1994, have no legal value.
Ownership. The official service description says the free search includes the ultimate beneficiaries of an enterprise. We did not test how complete that data is. The open-data copy removes personal names and addresses, so check individual names on the official register.
Search and fees.
- Free online consultation by enterprise name, NEQ or person name.
- Attestation: CAD 27 regular, CAD 40.50 priority. Document certification: CAD 39 regular, CAD 58.50 priority.
- Copy or extract of a document: CAD 5 regular, CAD 7.50 priority.
- Compilation of information on a set of companies: from CAD 134 base (digital or paper).
- Name reservation, with name search report: CAD 27 regular, CAD 40.50 priority. Source tariff RE-101, 2026.
Bulk and API. Donnees Quebec publishes the register as one ZIP file (about 225 MB) with six UTF-8 CSV files joined on the NEQ. It is refreshed twice a month and earlier versions are not archived. The licence is CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, which does not permit commercial use. We found no public API.
KYB notes. Essential for Quebec KYB. The free search shows beneficiaries, which most other Canadian registers do not publish free. Commercial reuse of the open data is restricted, so use the official online consultation or a licensed route for any paid product. Open-data records can be out of date between refreshes.
To verify.
- Completeness of beneficiary data: not tested.
- Route for a commercial product: confirm with the publisher ([email protected]).
Crown Intelligence coverage. Partial. Crown Intelligence does not hold the REQ register. We hold the Quebec RENA list of companies ineligible for public contracts, and two MELCCFP environmental registers. They can flag a company name, but they are not a substitute for the register.

British Columbia: BC Registries, Business Registry
What it holds. Businesses, incorporated companies, cooperatives and societies. Results show status, incorporation or registration date, date of the last annual report, previous names, registered office, records office, directors and officers (often from annual reports), and copies of annual reports. The new Business and Person Search covers benefit companies, active cooperatives, sole proprietorships and general partnerships, with other business types to follow.
Ownership. Shareholder and member details are not available on the register, according to BC Registries. We did not find ISC (beneficial ownership) data on the pages read. We have not verified it, so check with BC Registries before relying on it.
Search and fees.
- Business and Person Search needs a BC Registries account for repeat searches. Documents can be paid by card or pre-authorized debit.
- Historical BC OnLine search: CAD 100 one-time account set-up. Available for corporations, limited partnerships and societies.
- Certificate of Good Standing: CAD 26.50 on the legacy BC OnLine list (statutory CAD 25 plus CAD 1.50).
- Search: CAD 8.50 on the legacy list. The current corporate search price was not shown on the product fee page read.
- Priority search service: CAD 100 added to the regular fee.
- Extra-provincial companies receive a Letter Under Seal, not a certificate of good standing. Certificates of status are issued only for entities formed in BC.
Bulk and API. OrgBook BC is a free open API with business numbers, legal names, registration status and selected licences. It is verifiable-credentials data, not the full register. BC Registries also offers a developer API Gateway that needs an account; we did not review it. We found no bulk download.
KYB notes. Confirm the entity type and status before relying on the record. Shareholders are not public, so get ownership from registration documents, a KYB questionnaire or a licensed provider. The legacy price list says fees may change without notice, so confirm prices with BC Registries before quoting.
To verify.
- Current corporate search fee: not confirmed (legacy list shows CAD 8.50).
- ISC data: not verified.
Crown Intelligence coverage. Not held. The BC entries in our catalogue are BC Securities Commission sanctions, lobbyist and public-sector disclosure lists, and licence board discipline pages. None is a company register.
Alberta: Alberta Corporate Registry
What it holds. Alberta corporations, extra-provincial corporations, partnerships, trade names and incorporated non-profit organizations. Searches show registration date, owners, directors, legal addresses, status and filings, including certified copies and pre-1998 documents. Historical searches are available for a past date.
Ownership. Certified searches show owners and directors for corporations, trade names and partnerships. We found no public beneficial ownership (ISC) register on official pages. Alberta consulted in 2025 on rules requiring private companies to keep beneficial-owner records. The consultation page does not show a public register in force.
Search and fees.
- Searches are ordered through a registry agent. Find one on alberta.ca or call 780-427-7013 (Monday to Friday, 8:15 am to 4:30 pm).
- The government fee is set by the registry. The agent adds its own service charge, which is not published by government.
- Current or historical corporation search: CAD 5.30. Certificate of status: CAD 5.30. Certified copy of information or transaction: CAD 5.30.
- Trade name or partnership search: CAD 1.06. Corporation status inquiry: no government fee; the agent charge applies.
- Fees come from the registry agent catalogue effective 1 October 2026.
Bulk and API. None found on official pages. The registry agent product catalogue is open data under the Open Government Licence - Alberta, but it is a price list, not register data.
KYB notes. A free online profile was not found, so KYB in Alberta usually relies on certified searches ordered through an agent. Certified searches are the route to owner and director data. Status checks are free to government.
To verify.
- Beneficial-ownership rules once in force: confirm.
- French availability: not verified.
Crown Intelligence coverage. Not held. The Alberta entries in our catalogue are licensing boards, not the corporate registry.
Saskatchewan: Saskatchewan Corporate Registry (ISC)
What it holds. Businesses, corporations, co-operatives, credit unions, non-profit corporations, partnerships, limited partnerships, LLPs, sole proprietorships, condominium corporations and extra-provincial entities. Profile reports show entity type, status, registration date, nature of business, registered office or mailing address, owners or directors, and event history. Online records go back to 1999. Older entities need a document order.
Ownership. Profile reports list owners and directors. We found no public individuals-with-significant-control (beneficial ownership) register on the official pages read.
Search and fees.
- Searching needs a login to the ISC Corporate Registry application. No free anonymous search was confirmed.
- Profile report: CAD 10. Certificate of status: CAD 15.
- Document order: CAD 12 per document. Electronic certification: CAD 5 per document. Manual certification: CAD 40.
- Document order priority: CAD 75 per order. Name and trade-mark NUANS search: CAD 60.
- Fee table effective 15 April 2026.
Bulk and API. The Bulk Information Service reports entity names by location or activity, from a CAD 200 minimum, with an estimate on request. We found no public API or open-data download.
KYB notes. Owners and directors come from paid profile reports. Use a verified customer account for KYB. Electronic certified documents are the lower-cost route. Entities formed before 1999 need a document order.
To verify.
- Confirm that no ISC register is public.
- French availability: not verified.
Crown Intelligence coverage. Not held. The Saskatchewan entries in our catalogue are licensing boards only.

Manitoba: Companies Office (Companies Online)
What it holds. Corporations, business names (sole proprietorships and partnerships), limited partnerships, LLPs, co-operatives, non-profit corporations, extra-provincial corporations and co-operatives, and name notations. Searches show who is doing business under a trade name, where it is located, and its officers and directors. The office also records appointments of commissioners for oaths and notaries public.
Ownership. Officers and directors are on the File Summary. Corporations must keep their own register of individuals with significant control (25% or more of votes or fair market value). That register is not filed with the Companies Office and is not public. Access is limited to shareholders, creditors, police, taxing and regulatory officials, and certain directors. Beneficial ownership cannot be verified from the registry.
Search and fees.
- Companies Online login required. Supported browsers are Chrome, Edge and Firefox; Safari is not supported.
- Basic information on a registered entity by name: free.
- File Summary (current information, including officers and directors): CAD 5 per company, by Visa or Mastercard.
- Certificate of search or status: CAD 40. Certified copy of articles: CAD 40. Search by mail: CAD 10.
- Business name registration: CAD 60 regular, CAD 120 expedited. The fee schedule is dated 1 October 2018 and should be re-checked.
Bulk and API. None found. The office lists recent filings on its website, which is not a bulk download.
KYB notes. A free entity search is a good first check. Use the File Summary for current officers and directors. Because the ISC register is private, ownership cannot be verified from the registry. Corporations that are reporting issuers, listed on a designated stock exchange, loan or trust corporations, or without share capital are exempt.
To verify.
- Fee schedule dated 2018: re-check before quoting.
- Exemption list: check against the Act before relying on it.
Crown Intelligence coverage. Not held. The Manitoba entries in our catalogue are City of Winnipeg PEP feeds (council, gift and lobbyist registries), not the Companies Office register.
Sources: [28] [29] [30] [31] [32] [33] [34]
New Brunswick: Corporate Registry (Service New Brunswick)
What it holds. Business and non-profit corporations, partnerships and business names, extra-provincial corporations operating in New Brunswick, and certain condominium corporation information. The database is extracted from filed documents. The government says the online database is not the official legal record; the filed documents are.
Ownership. The beneficial ownership register (individuals with significant control, 25% or more of voting shares) has been required since 10 June 2022. It is kept at the corporation's head office and is not public. Access is limited to investigative and regulatory bodies, tax authorities, police, the Director, and shareholders or directors who give an affidavit. Owners and directors are not published on the register.
Search and fees.
- Search by a 15-digit New Brunswick Business Number is free, per transaction.
- Per-transaction card search: CAD 3.
- Subscriber access for unlimited internet searching: CAD 50 a month, arranged by email.
- Copy of a registry document: CAD 10. Certified copy: CAD 20.
- Terms prohibit automated tools, and access may be denied without notice.
Bulk and API. None found. Subscriber access is the closest published option. Automated retrieval is prohibited, so the site cannot support bulk KYB checks.
KYB notes. Use a search by a known BN for a free status check, and order a certified copy where you need legal weight. Owners and directors are not published, so ownership needs the affidavit route or a KYB questionnaire.
To verify.
- Name search options: not confirmed.
- French site version: likely, not verified.
Crown Intelligence coverage. Not held. The New Brunswick entries in our catalogue are licensing boards only.
Nova Scotia: Registry of Joint Stock Companies (RJSC)
What it holds. Companies, sole proprietorships, partnerships, societies, co-operatives and business names (operating names). Official names, addresses, registration dates, recognized agents, partners, directors and officers, activity history (filed documents and reports), and related registrations.
Ownership. Sections 46A to 46H of the Companies Act (in force 1 April 2023) require Nova Scotia companies to keep a register of individuals with significant control. Secondary law-firm commentary says it is kept internally and is not filed or public. We have not confirmed this against the Act or an official Nova Scotia page.
Search and fees.
- Free basic search by name or Registry ID, with a status filter.
- Advanced search: the fee was not checked.
- Copy of articles, amalgamation agreement or by-laws: CAD 24.95. Copy of other documents: CAD 12.45 each.

- NUANS name search: Atlantic CAD 53.09 and federal CAD 66.30, plus HST.
- The fee schedule is marked 'revised July 31, 2019' and is for information only. Re-check before quoting.
Bulk and API. None found on the official pages read. This was not checked exhaustively.
KYB notes. Good for existence, status, Registry ID, directors and officers, and filing history. Document copies are paid per item. Confirm current fees before quoting, because the schedule dates from 2019.
To verify.
- ISC register: confirm against the Act or an official page.
- Fee schedule dated 2019: re-check.
- Advanced search fee: not checked.
Crown Intelligence coverage. Not held. The Nova Scotia entries in our catalogue are professional regulators, not a company register.

Prince Edward Island: Business and Corporate Registry
What it holds. Corporations, business names and other registered businesses, searchable by official business name. Two systems run in parallel: the new online registry and the 'Original' registry. Corporations under the Business Corporations Act must file shareholder information in the Online Corporate Business Names Registry (OCBR), from September 2020.
Ownership. Shareholder information is filed in OCBR. Individuals with significant control are recorded by the corporation and provided on request to shareholders and creditors (with a declaration), investigative bodies, the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission, tax authorities, police and the Director of Corporations. The official pages do not say whether shareholder data is public, so we do not treat it as public.
Search and fees.
- Free name search on the official site. No login or fee is shown on the search page.
- Name search level 1 (Atlantic and federal): CAD 40. Level 2 (Canada-wide): CAD 50.
- Certified copy of letters patent or a certificate of good standing: CAD 30. Copy: CAD 10.
- Annual return: CAD 30 with share capital, or CAD 20 without.
- These fees come from a 2012 office consolidation that is not the official version. Third-party quotes were not used.
Bulk and API. None found. Not checked in depth.
KYB notes. Search only by the exact official business name, and check both registries, because a company may be in the other one. Confirm current fees before quoting.
To verify.
- Current fee schedule: obtain it, since the consolidation dates from 2012.
- Whether shareholder data is public: confirm.
Crown Intelligence coverage. Not held. The PEI entries in our catalogue are professional regulators, rental orders and court decisions.
Newfoundland and Labrador: Registry of Companies (CADO)
What it holds. All corporations operating in the province, according to the official page. The About page gives about 50,000 incorporations registered, of which about 26,000 are active. Filings include incorporation, amendments, amalgamation, continuance, revival, dissolution, annual returns, and notices of registered office and directors. The Registry does not keep a list of shareholders.
Ownership. Corporations with share capital must keep an internal register of individuals with significant control, in force from 1 April 2022. It is not filed with the Registry and is not required to be public. It is disclosed on request to shareholders and creditors (with an affidavit), investigative bodies and the Registrar.
Search and fees.
- CADO offers name and number search. On our test, the page returned no records and refers to an 'Authorized User' process.
- Whether the search is free or needs an account was not confirmed.
- Name reservation: CAD 10. Change of registered office or notice of directors: CAD 10. Change of name: CAD 100.
- The fee schedule has fees effective 1 January 2017. Confirm with Service NL before quoting.
Bulk and API. None found on the official pages.
KYB notes. Ownership must come from the company's ISC register (not public) or from its shareholders. Directors are held on file through notices. The certificate of good standing is CAD 10 on the published schedule.
To verify.
- Free or paid status of the CADO search, and whether an account is needed.
- Fee schedule effective 1 January 2017: confirm before quoting.
- The test search returned no records: retest with a known company.
Crown Intelligence coverage. Not held. The NL entries in our catalogue are professional regulators and court sources.

Territorial registers
Yukon: Yukon Corporate Online Registry (YCOR)
What it holds. Business corporations, partnerships, societies, co-operative associations, sole proprietors and other businesses in Yukon. Filings include annual returns, notices of change of registered address and directors, amalgamations, dissolutions, continuances and certificates of status.
Ownership. Since 1 June 2025, Yukon corporations must keep a register of individuals with significant control, due by 1 June 2026. The corporation keeps the register and provides it on request to law enforcement, tax and regulatory authorities. It is not filed with the registry and is not public. The deadline has passed, so a company may not yet have one. Ask for it.
Search and fees.
- A free basic search needs no account. It confirms existence, registry number, location and reporting compliance.
- Advanced search (details and filings), online filings, and certificates of status need a YCOR account.
- Certificate of status: CAD 25. Computer printout of an electronic file search: CAD 20.
- Certified copy, or copy in written form: CAD 25 plus CAD 1 per page. Annual return: CAD 100.
- The official fee page is dated 5 May 2025.
Bulk and API. None found on the official pages. Not checked in depth.
KYB notes. The free search confirms existence and compliance. Directors, officers and filing detail need an account. Search by name or registry number; the official pages do not state the search rules, so test both.
To verify.
- ISC compliance since the 1 June 2026 deadline: current status not checked.

Northwest Territories: Corporate Registries Online System (CROS)
What it holds. Entities registered in the NWT: business corporations, extra-territorial registrations, non-profit societies, co-operative associations, partnerships (including limited partnerships) and business names. The basic record shows legal name, entity type, status, file number and jurisdiction. The full profile adds entity detail and scanned images of filed documents. The office notes that officer, director and address fields should be checked on a live profile.
Ownership. We did not identify an ISC or beneficial ownership register in the official sources read. This is not confirmed against the full Business Corporations Act, so treat it as not available until checked.
Search and fees.
- Basic CROS name search is free and needs no account.
- Full entity profile with links to filed documents: CAD 4 per search, with 24-hour access. Needs a CROS account and a Visa or Mastercard pre-authorization (default hold CAD 50).
- Office-conducted search by email, fax or in person: CAD 4 per entity, typically the next business day.
- Certificate of compliance, status or good standing: CAD 20, by email, pickup or fax (not online). Fax adds CAD 2.
- Certified true copy: CAD 5 plus CAD 1 per page, not sent by email or fax. A letter of status for a non-profit society under the Societies Act has no fee.
Bulk and API. None identified. CROS is a web search tool. No open dataset or API was found on the official pages read.
KYB notes. Confirm the legal name, status and entity type with a free search, then pay for a full profile when you need filings. Documents filed within standard processing times may not appear on CROS, so order a certified true copy for authoritative records. Certificate requests ask for card details; do not send those by email or fax, and use the in-person route or a phone payment instead. CROS is literal, so run variants such as N.W.T., and/&, accents and plurals.
To verify.
- ISC position: confirm against the Business Corporations Act (only a search excerpt was read).
- Officer and director fields: verify on a live profile.
Crown Intelligence coverage. Not held. The NWT entries in our catalogue are licensing and discipline feeds (the nursing college for NWT and Nunavut, and the NWT Law Society), not corporate registers.

Nunavut: Corporate Registries, Legal Registries Division
What it holds. Business Corporations Act corporations (territorial and extra-territorial), societies, co-operative associations, partnerships, business names and limited partnerships. Filings include annual returns, notices of directors or officers, notices of registered office and financial statements. Notices of directors and changes of directors (Forms 4 to 6) are filed. The site says all documents in the corporate registries are available for public inspection.
Ownership. We did not find an ISC or beneficial ownership register in the official sources read. The Business Corporations Act was checked only through search excerpts, so this is not confirmed in full.
Search and fees.
- No free public web search for corporations was found.
- Search requests go to [email protected]. Filings go to [email protected].
- A search request must authorize a card already on file with Legal Registries, or give a phone number for staff to collect card details.
- Search: nil on the Business Corporations Act fee schedule. Name search and reservation: CAD 25. Certificate of compliance or status: CAD 10.
- Certified true copy: CAD 5 plus CAD 1 per page. Photocopy: CAD 1 per page. Annual return: CAD 70.
Bulk and API. None identified. Email submissions must be PDF at 300 dpi and no larger than 2 MB per email.
KYB notes. Allow for turnaround time, because name searches go through the office. A card must already be on file for a search request, so set that up first. Searches are free; certificates are low cost. The office was temporarily relocated, so confirm the current in-person location before a visit. The site notes that it is under construction and should not be relied on for securities law.
To verify.
- ISC position: confirm against the full Act.
- Fee for notices of directors and registered office: not stated in the schedule read; ask the office.
- Office location: confirm before a visit.
Crown Intelligence coverage. Not held. The Nunavut entries in our catalogue are licensing and discipline feeds, not corporate registers.

KYB checklist
- Identify the home register first. Confirm the legal name, entity type and jurisdiction of formation from that register.
- Record the identifier used for the match: corporation number and BN, OCN or BIN, NEQ, Registry ID, file number or entity number. Note the date you checked.
- Confirm the status (active, inactive, dissolved) and any change of name.
- Compare the registered office and the head office with the application.
- Record directors and officers from the register or a certified search, with the date of the record.
- Where ownership is not public, request the company's ISC or beneficial-ownership record, or a KYB questionnaire. Treat an empty ISC field as unknown, not as no owners.
- For Quebec, check beneficiaries on the official register, because the open-data copy removes names and is for non-commercial use.
- Where the company operates in another province or territory, check its extra-provincial or extra-territorial registration there.
- Order a certificate of status or good standing where you need proof of standing, and keep the certified copy on file.
- For NWT and Nunavut, allow time for email, fax or in-person requests, and do not send card details by email or fax.
- Run name variants where a register is literal (for example N.W.T., and/&, accents and plurals).
- Re-check fees and the date of each source before quoting. Several schedules in this guide are older than 2025.
- Screen the company and its directors against sanctions, PEP, debarment and regulatory lists, and record the source and retrieval date for each check.
