Figures of record
Every headline figure on this site, with its value, unit, as-of date, source and method. The numbers are read from our data files, not typed by hand.
One number per figure
Each figure has one value of record. It is shown the same way wherever it appears on the site, and the page names the file it comes from. If two files count the same thing in different ways, we do not quietly pick one. We show both values, explain the difference and mark it under review until the owner decides.
All figures are counts of lists and records, not of people. No screened person's record appears on this page.

Sources and lists
Registers are official lists and registries we load, counted from the source catalogue. Twin rows repeat a loaded feed. They are left out of source counts, but their records are counted in the record figures. Whether they should be is under review (see Sanctions).

Records by collection
The published collection indexes give the raw record count of each collection. The database rows count active records per collection, with each list counted once.

Sanctions
Sanctions counts leave out wanted lists, court and eviction records, and rows that are not sanctions lists. The raw database view counts every row stored as SANCTION, so it is higher.
Under review: 12 duplicate feeds are counted once in the database screening index (123 lists) and twice in the catalogue sanctions total (135 rows). The owner has not decided which count is right.

Office-holder registers only. Public-sector salary and payment disclosures are excluded from the PEP figures. The raw database view includes them.
